The topic is more relevant than ever. All over the world more and more people live in urban agglomerations. This global development does not stop at European cities. Vienna will (again) reach the 2-million-inhabitants benchmark very soon – and will be faced with massive challenges for its inclusive housing policy. Against this background, IBA_Vienna will serve as an experimental ground for innovation both in the fields of new housing construction and urban renewal, in order to present best-practice cases to an international public and to engage in a cross-border discourse on the future of social housing policy. Several urban quarters will become laboratories and showrooms of the exhibition.
IBA_Vienna as dialogue platform
europaforum wien supports the IBA-Office, which has been entrusted with the set-up and implementation of the building exhibition, both in terms of concept development and operative assistance. The IBA process was officially launched at a public symposium, organised, moderated and documented by europaforum wien. Around 500 participants were asked to bring forward their expectations for IBA_Vienna with regard to specific aspects of housing policy, and to develop first ideas for concrete IBA projects. The dialogue process will now be continued with a series of the thematic discussion panels, the “IBA talks”. An international expert advisory board – with the support of europaforum wien – will accompany the whole IBA process, will consult with the responsible actors on thematic focus topics and will monitor the progress of implementation.
